almost forgot

I had the wonderful opportunity as well tonight to drive on the wrong side of the road! That is, on the left side, NOT on the "right" side! Yes, Benita surprised me when we drove out from the petrol station(gas station) to go home because she said, "anna, would you like to drive home?" I secretly had prayed for this opportunity to arise on some ocasion! So here it was! I got to drive home! It was NOT as easy as I thought it would be! All of the cars are manuals here, so I thought I'd be fine with shifting because you still put the stick in the same places as you do at home, but you use your left hand, which makes a world of difference! It was like I was learning to drive all over again! I think I put Benita and Astrid into shock, even though I didn't crash or anything. So who knows if I'll be asked to do that again! I just need my practice, right? I've heard that I don't even need to get an international license to drive here, so I pretty much legal by now......

So far, yet so close....

Tonight I had the amazing opportunity to chat with the one and only Kristin Pitts! It was almost bittersweet to hear her voice over the phone! I wanted so bad to be able to see her in person, yet just hearing her voice was great too. She was lucky to get a hold of my mom's calling card info so that she could easily get a hold of me....see everyone....it's SO easy! Just call up Sheila and ask for the card info and then call me! It's as simple as that! Go ahead, try it! haha....

So today in "organizational leadership" we discussed all the readings we did on "leadership", of course. Even before I got to class I was a bit disgruntled at the fact that ALL of the readings were by American leaders in the church or secular society! I didn't want to believe the fact that American influence is everywhere! I already knew that the US was ahead of most countries in terms of their leadership, but it just hit me today that all of these students, me included are learning how to "do" leadership from one particular culture and society. Who says that all Americans are doing it the right way? Does the rest of the world have to follow just because of the fact that America is the most successful at it? Who knows, maybe the way America does leadership won't be successful in any way in a different country! The last thing we did in class was watch a recording of the Leadership Summit from Willow Creek church in Illinois! Jim Collins was doing a seminar on Level 5 leadership! I almost forgot the fact that I was in South Africa while watching the film, until I looked around the room and realized I was surrounded by students from all over Africa! Do they serious even find interest in American leadership? I have no idea! Maybe I should ask them? Not today though....By the time the video was finished all I wanted to do was get out of the classroom....

Those were my thoughts today....along with dreaming about the beach that I never went to today....It's ok though....tomorrow at 9 AM I'm headed to Camp's Bay for some beach time with Allison and her host sister, Lauren!

Then tomorrow night I have to write one of my 3 papers for this week!
